MaterialePlasticMaterialePlasticIG-88, the most feared bounty hunter in The Empire Strikes Back, appears in 1:12 scale in Hasbro's Black Series line. This 6‑inch figure captures the ruthless essence of the droid with a precision that defies distance, offering collectors a piece of galactic history ready to dominate any showcase.
The scene
The figure recreates the moment when IG-88 is aboard the Executor, alongside other bounty hunters summoned by Darth Vader. This scene, taken from Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back (1980), captures the tense atmosphere of assembling the Imperial fleet under the Dark Lord's command.
The character
Built secretly by Holowan Laboratories, IG-88 represents the dark turning point of its existence: upon activation, the unit turned against its creators, becoming one of the most lethal and ruthless entities of the Imperial era. This rebellion is not just a technical detail, but the heart of its narrative arc, placing it at the top of the galactic criminal hierarchy. Its impact on the saga endures: the skeletal and metallic design set the aesthetic standard for assassin droids, directly inspiring later characters such as IG‑11. For collectors, this droid is not just a piece of an army, but the ultimate symbol of mechanical threat and the shadow that hangs over classic bounty hunters, making it an invaluable cornerstone for any display dedicated to Star Wars' underworld.
Why collect it
For collectors, this piece is not just a simple display accessory, but a fundamental piece for completing the roster of bounty hunters from The Empire Strikes Back. The Black Series line, with its reputation for fidelity and build quality, guarantees that every detail of armor and posture captures the character's menacing essence, making it a desired item for those who appreciate historical precision and cinematic aesthetics. Owning this 1:12 scale version means having at hand an icon of the franchise that, thanks to its rarity and Hasbro's detail care, gains value over time, transforming one's collection into a true showcase of key saga moments.
